ra-arthritis-pain-infusionsWhile standard treatment has been oral medication for a very long time, in the past couple of years there has been a move toward using intravenous drugs to better help relieve arthritis pain.

The main drug used for arthritis infusion therapy, Rituximab, works by depleting B lymphocytes in the peripheral blood.  By reducing B lymphocytes, signs and symptoms of arthritis are effectively and sustainably reduced.

Benefits of Infusion Therapy for Arthritis

The biggest benefit of rituximab infusion therapy is that, while it can take up to 3 months to see effects, they last can last from 6 months to up to 2 years following a single infusion course.

How Infusion Therapy for Arthritis Works

Rituximab is generally given intravenously over three to four hours, with two doses given about two weeks apart.  Patients also receive corticosteroids 30 minutes before each infusion.  Your health practitioner will prescribe readministration based on your specific health profile, generally anywhere from 6 months to when symptoms begin to reoccur.
